Many of our parents and grandparents grew up in times where there was work to be done. Lots of work to do. So talking and conversation didn’t seem as important of a focus. This is my perception anyway. As I age, I can see where lack of communication and keeping quite about this or that has deeply scared our families. And how scars that are left unhealed can wreck generations of families. But I also found hope! Over the years, as I read the Bible, I have come to understand that God has called us to be in community with one another. Be unified in Him. Confess our sins to one another. Pray for one another. To love our neighbors. To Listen. To testify to others all of the ways God has been good to us. I don’t know about you, but all this seems likes it requires communication to me. All of this seems like we need to have patience to hear one another without judging. Wisdom to listen so we can pray for one another and allow God to do what only God can do! Redeem hearts. Restore relationships. Heal wounds. Free us of all the baggage! Help others find hope in freeing their baggage!
Walking this out can difficult at best but by seeking God day by day – reading His word – asking Him “what do you need me to know today, Lord?” – will, over time lead to a greater sense of ease. A confident assurance that God has you. Faith that is increased allowing you to walk into the next step God has for you. Eventually giving voice to the conversations that need to be had. Pouring of patience to hear words without offense. The humble asking of forgiveness of offenses. The ability to speak a truth that God has taught you humbly and gently, allowing you to be a light for someone else. See, as we intentionally seek God and what He has to teach us and we allow Him to heal us of our wounds God uses each of us by placing the very people who are also struggling with what we have struggled with in our paths. Don’t believe me? Try striking up a conversation with someone in your path and listening. Listening with the intent of learning “why has God placed us together today”. There will be a common thread. And if, just if, you have allowed God to heal you from that struggle, you are then able to look that Devine appointed person in their eyes and share how God has helped you heal and He will help them to.
We are a world that is hurting. We are a world that feels so much pressure to be so many things and be them perfectly. We are a world who, if we listen to many sources, behaves as thou there were never any laws for the soul. But there are! The words left for us in the Bible explain hard times. The words left for us in the Bible point out sin and it’s impact. The words left in the Bible pour out hope. They fill our minds with promises that will remain. They comfort a wound. They teach us of our future. They are a rock to stand on. They are truth. They call us to live in truth. That we be true….to ourselves and to one another.
Father, I pray that you reveal anything that we are believing that prevents us from living in your truth. Teach us to ask you questions. Give us patience to wait for your answer. Strengthen us to obey your commands. Humble us to share with one another your greatness and saving power. Awaken us to community with one another, to unity, to living out our faith in you. I ask these things in Jesus name. Amen
